Our 2015-16 fellowship is ending. After a more than 10-month journey, we’re crossing the finish line. We’re polishing our portfolio. We’re sending thank you notes to our partners. We’re changing our titles from “Health for America fellow” to “Health for America alum.”
We’re bringing this chapter to a close, but we’re already looking ahead toward the next—both for WellRooted and for each of us individually. As we do so, we also want to thank all of you who helped us get to this moment. You’re the clinical partners who’ve collaborated with us and the patients whom we’ve had the honor of designing with, not for. You’re the entrepreneurs who’ve inspired us and the healthcare administrators who’ve grounded us in today’s reality. You’re the parents, siblings, significant others, friends, and roommates who’ve helped us get through the defeats and celebrate the victories of this year.
If we’re being honest, the list of people to whom we owe our thanks is as endless as the gratitude we’re feeling as we wrap things up this week. We’re feeling a lot of other things, too—much more than could fit in a single blog post. That’s why, over the next several weeks, you’ll hear from each of us about what this experience has meant. Stay tuned!
But before we officially drop the mic on our year together, we wanted to offer one last update from our team.
What’s Next for WellRooted?
If you’ve followed the HFA blog, you know that we’ve spent the past several months working with our partners at MedStar Health to build WellRooted. This diet management and nutrition literacy tool allows people living with type 2 diabetes to order diabetes-friendly meals straight to their doorsteps. If you haven’t already checked out our site, be sure to take a look at our Cook-at-Home menu (with over 15 new recipes!) and our Ready-to-Eat menu (powered by an exciting new partner!).
As we wrap up today, we’re excited to announce that MedStar Health will continue offering WellRooted to patients and employees after the conclusion of our fellowship. Exciting, right? It gets even better. We’re also partnering with Power Supply, a meal delivery company with hubs in the Washington, DC, region and in California, to explore ways to sustain and grow WellRooted in the long-term.
What’s Next for the 2015-16 Fellows?
A nice long nap. Then, only after catching up on the sleep we’ve lost to make sure that WellRooted is, err, well-rooted within MedStar Health, we’ll head down our own paths toward exciting futures. In the near term, Dan and Amanda will continue working to sustain WellRooted’s impact across the MedStar system. Dan will work within the Power Supply team, and Amanda will continue working within the MedStar Institute for Innovation (where she’ll also help welcome the new 2016-17 fellows!). Jake and May go on to apply what they’ve learned during the fellowship with exciting companies working at the intersection of health, design, and technology.
