We just wrapped up our first day of the 2015-16 class of Health for America fellows! Today we welcomed Jake, Amanda, May, and Dan at the MedStar Institute for Innovation. This was the first day of their journey to build a sustainable solution to type 2 diabetes. They will be based in Washington, DC and work with our partners, MedStar and 1776.
Today, the team met with the MedStar Institute for Innovation team, interviewed someone living with type 2 diabetes, found out what it means to be a fellow, and had an article discussion on the role of design in social entrepreneurship.
We have an exciting agenda lined up in the first few weeks, including crash courses in diabetes management, design thinking, health stakeholders, health finances, and personal branding. The fellows will be traveling to Delaware's Nemours Children's Hospital, attending pitch competitions and tech meetups, planning their diabetes simulation, and speaking to healthcare entrepreneurs. This is just the tip of the iceberg for upcoming year of learning, exploring, designing, and building, and we cannot wait to see what the fellows create to improve healthcare outcomes.
