We’re dumping out our suitcases and repacking for a completely different destination - Austin, Texas!
Starting this Thursday, the Fellows will be at South by Southwest (SXSW) Interactive, the interactive portion of the SXSW’s annual conference and festival. We’ll divide and conquer to learn as much as we can from exhibitors, sessions, and workshops.
Despite coming from four different backgrounds, there is really something for each of us. Nick is looking forward to Sketchnoting 101, where he’ll walk in with pen and notepad and practice generating visuals to communicate ideas. Ellen is excited for the Psychological Architectures for Persuasive Tech, where she’ll learn about designing around psychological principles that influence how people think and behave. Megan will be at Digital Health: Where are the Billion Dollar Unicorns?, where she’ll hear from digital health investors looking for the next Facebook of digital health. For me, I’ll be split between my two favorite topics, health and happiness. I’m looking forward to The Science of Happy Design, on building happiness into the user experience, and Digital Diversity: How Culture Impacts Digital, on how culture influences how we connect, and how to engage consumers in culturally relevant ways. I’m also excited for SXgood, a social good platform for those interested in impact design and social innovation for meaningful causes.
We anticipate serious and imminent FOMO, and our only regret is not having ordered this Time Turner in time. Check out this list of trends at SXSW Interactive, which include increased connectivity via the Internet of Things, more robots, and millennials’ demand for serving social good.
We’ll keep you posted next week on the trends we see for ourselves. Huge thanks to South by Southwest, HFA, and everyone following this journey. And to Ryan Gosling, Jimmy Kimmel, and Snoop Dogg - see you soon.
